Safe Work Australia is seeking feedback on a proposed approach to improve regulations around welding processes, aiming to better protect workers and others in the workplace from welding-related hazards.

Consultation information

Since 2023, Safe Work Australia has been examining the risks associated with welding processes. This consultation paper outlines current issues raised by stakeholders around the current regulatory framework for welding and presents suggested approaches to address them to enhance workplace safety. The purpose of the paper is to collect stakeholder feedback on whether the proposed approach would effectively manage the unique risks associated with welding in the workplace.

The proposed approach was developed based on feedback provided to multiple previous consultations relevant to welding.

All stakeholders with an interest in improving safety and clarifying obligations for when a welding process is being conducted at a workplace are encouraged to participate in the consultation. Submissions from this consultation will help guide decisions made by Safe Work Australia Members.
